Letter from Leadership

Well, the secret is out! Edge is born.

After months of planning and preparation, the change in name from Dairy Business Milk Marketing Cooperative to Edge is now in full swing. It is hard to believe that we kept it under wraps. This should prove to my mother’s spirit that even I’m capable of keeping a secret.

The announcement came Nov. 9 at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters convention in Kansas City, Mo.

The change is natural as the idea for a new name, mission and approach came from you, our members. Yes, our members! Your voices were heard loud and clear and we responded.

It’s not often that an agricultural organization will change its identity. Most are resistant to take the risk. However, our membership represents progressive, goal-oriented farmers.

You are always pushing the envelope and on the cutting edge of change on your farms. Nothing at Edge represents status quo. Rather, it represents action by amplifying your voice on the critical topics facing the dairy community. Our tagline, “The voice of milk,” says it all.

I would like to thank those members who teed up the idea over a year ago and the Edge board of directors and staff for leading this process of change. I’m a big believer that leadership requires a willingness to change, to be confident in the people you represent, and to be willing to take risks in doing what’s right. After all, the future is shaped by what we do, not what we think.

You can read more about what drove this change from our board president, John Pagel, on Page 3.

Cheers to Edge The voice of milk!
