Our members’ voices were loud and clear in Congress this week.
A group from Edge made up of members, board members and staff met with the aides of 26 influential lawmakers as well as Gregg Doud, the chief agricultural negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
The meetings Monday and Tuesday were part of a Dairy Speaks in D.C. series of visits to Washington in which we carry the concerns of our farmers to Capitol Hill to ensure that lawmakers in both political parties understand your challenges when they consider new laws and policies. The congressional offices we visited represented Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin, and included the staff from the House and Senate agriculture committees.
We also took the opportunity to connect with several like-minded agricultural groups about how we can work together to push for our priorities.
We covered a variety of issues that members like you told us are the most important to your ability to farm and be successful — labor security, better access to global trade markets, quick and effective implementation of the farm bill, sensible regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency and the mislabeling of plant-based dairy imitation products.
Our crew spoke frankly and passionately about these vital issues and was proud to represent you. The staff and board greatly appreciated the members who directly participated. Our farmers’ voices — the voice of milk — are always the most powerful.
